Managing long-term clinicians

This is The ‘Henry Barnes Lecture’ 2006, given at the Royal Society of Medicine. The lecture considers the long-term relationship between people with long-term conditions and those health professionals who provide them with care. It argues for recognising that supporting patients in managing their own health and that sharing information and promoting mutual trust is essential if we are to tackle health inequalities.
